Coniston Cumbria England

Coniston itself is well located at the northern end of the lake and  protected to the west by the Old Man of Coniston, a spectacular and relatively easy Mountain to climb.

The lake of Coniston is beautiful and a popular place for swimming and boating, it was here on the 4th January 1967 that Donald Campbell famous attempt on the world water speed record ended in tragedy, as he was attempting to break 300 mph. The boat lifted into the air and rolled several times.
