Coniston, Cumbria -travel information and accommodation
Coniston itself is well located at the northern end of the lake and protected to the west by the Old Man of Coniston, a spectacular and relatively easy Mountain to climb.
The lake of
Coniston is beautiful and a popular place for swimming and boating, it was here
on the 4th January 1967 that Donald Campbell famous attempt on the world water
speed record ended in tragedy, as he was attempting to break 300 mph. The boat
lifted into the air and rolled several times.
